China's Water Woes

Reuters News Agency reports that recent testing of water in major rivers and lakes by China's Ministry of Environmental Protection showed that 24.3% of China's surface water is so polluted that it is unusable for any purpose. Another 26.4% was categorized as appropriate for industrial and agricultural use. Only 49.3% of surface water was considered safe for drinking, a 1.3% improvement over last year's results.
