Outreach » Graduate Education

The WaterCAMPWS offers a number of opportunies to graduate students to grow professionally and academically. We offer grants and fellowships to give graduate students greater depth in their research experience. We also provide many ways for them to grow professionally throgh mentoring programs and participation in the Student Leadership Council.

Graduate Involvement in Outreach

The WaterCAMPWS offers a number of opportunities for graduate students to become involved Human Resource Development (HRD) through our Education and Diversity Programs. Three areas of involvement include our Student Leadership Committee, teacher workshops and student recruitment. For example, students can become involved by teaching a WaterCAMPWS developed lesson at a teachers'; workshop, describe their research to high school students in our Chicago Science and Engineering Discovery Program, or be a member of the Student Leadership Committee and report to The WaterCAMPWS Executive Committee. While these are only a few examples of Education and Diversity involvement, there are many avenues through which a graduate student may fulfill their 10% requirement for HRD.

Courses

WaterCAMPWS courses are designed to help students become more conversant with activities in the Center that are outside their degree discipline. This course list was developed to guide advisors and students in the selection of the Center's courses. Courses selected in conjunction with the Center are in addition to those required as a part of a student's MS or PhD degree.

Course List

Courses marked with an asterisk (*) indicate that Engineering WaterCAMPWS students, with the recommendation of their advisor, may be able to successfully take the course without meeting all of the prerequisites for that course. CEE 342 is highly recommended as a first course. Courses are listed alphabetically by department.

Travel Grants

In order to give graduate students more opportunities for academic and professional development, WaterCAMPWS offers travel grants to provide funding to attend conferences and remote field research sites.

Student Leadership Council

The Student Leadership Council (SLC) was established to enhance communication between students and administration, and is comprised of graduate and undergraduate representatives. The SLC's social and supportive components enable students to enhance their research experiences and further their career aspirations by offering opportunities for travel grants, professional development workshops, lectures from leading researchers, and mentoring programs. The SLC Executive Committee, whose responsibilities include chairing SLC meetings and mentoring activities, is comprised of graduate students nominated by WaterCAMPWS administration. Contact the SLC Executive Committee by e-mailing at campwsslc@gmail.com.
