» Science and Engineering Discovery Program

The program exposes high school students in 3 partner schools to science, engineering, and technology fields via seminars, educational resources, sponsored science and engineering related trips, and engineering summer camps at UIUC. The program has two major components: monthly seminars held at the high schools, and a summer residential camp held on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's campus. Our parter schools are:
Beyond exposure to topics in science and engineering, one of the overall goals of SEDP is to create a pipeline of prospective scientists and engineers into the areas of water purification and nanomanufacturing, as well as creating prospective UIUC (specifically WaterCAMPWS) undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. SEDP goals for WaterCAMPWS can be summarized as:
- Exposing students to science and engineering fields and topics, in particular those associated with water purification and nanomanufacturing
- Increase interest and foster the likelihood that students will pursue degrees in science or engineering, in particular with a focus or interest in water purification or nanomanufacturing
- Increase the likelihood of students applying to and attending UIUC or one of the partner institutions of the Center, particularly in a science or engineering field;
- Once admitted to college, increase the likelihood of students working directly with one of the Centers as a funded undergraduate student, graduate student, or post-doctoral fellow.

Seniors who participate in the Science and Engineering Discovery Program and apply to the University of Illinois College of Engineering may qualify for an application fee waiver. The program is open to high school students at all grade levels and accepts up to twenty-five students from each school.
